Prince Harry and Meghan Markle united with the royal family ab they have responded with empathy and compassion following Kate Middleton's courageous disclosure of her battle with cancer.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a statement after their Princess of Wales announced that she is receiving cancer treatment.

"We wish health and healing for Kate and the family and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace," Harry and Meghan said in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Friday.

The words of kindness from the former royal couple, who stepped down from their royal roles in 2020, came in response to Princess Kate's revelation about her cancer treatment.

Kate shared a video message on January 22, 2024, in which she disclosed that following her abdominal surgery in January, post-operative tests "found cancer had been present."

According to a family source reported to PEOPLE that Prince Harry and Meghan did not have any clue about Princess Kate's abdominal surgery and recovery.

The insider said, "They are aware of everything that goes on back in England, but are being left out of any details regarding Kate," adding, "There is clearly no trust."
