Texas woman sustains horrific injuries in Honduras ATV crash

A dream holiday turned into a nightmare for a Texas family after Shontaneece Brooks, 30, was critically injured in a freak ATV accident in Honduras.

While on a seven-day getaway in February 2026 with her mother, Colondra Wilson, the pair joined a jungle excursion that took a tragic turn.

According to her mother, Brooks was travelling at approximately 15 to 20 miles per hour when her vehicle struck a protruding root.

The impact caused the handlebars to "go crazy," ejecting Brooks from her seat and sending her "full force" into a nearby tree.

The physical toll of the collision was devastating. "All of her teeth were busted out of her mouth, and her face was sliced open," Wilson, 49, recalled to Kennedy News and Media.

Wilson described the scene as a moment of total helplessness, remembering how she fell to her knees in prayer while her daughter’s face was covered with a sheet.

The family faced further distress at a local medical centre, where Wilson claimed she had to pay $5,000 upfront before her daughter received any assistance. Brooks did not have travel insurance, a decision her mother now calls a "wake-up call" for all holidaymakers.

Medical professionals spent eight hours treating Brooks' facial lacerations and a further 24 hours addressing a broken arm. Back in Texas, the family has established a GoFundMe page to cover the mounting medical bills and the high cost of dental reconstruction.

Wilson has stepped away from work to provide full-time care for her daughter, remarking that the experience has taught them never to take life for granted.
