Fans of the television drama Euphoria witnessed a poignant moment on Sunday as the late Eric Dane made his first posthumous appearance in the episode "America My Dream".
The actor, widely recognised for his role as Cal Jacobs, tragically died at the age of 53 in February 2026 following a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Although he was absent from the season premiere, the broadcast honoured him with an on-screen tribute reading, "In remembrance of Eric Dane. 1972-2026."
In the latest instalment, Dane’s character visits his son, Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. The scenes depict a notably softened relationship between the pair, appearing far less volatile than in previous years.
Series creator Sam Levinson revealed that Dane disclosed his diagnosis before filming commenced, leading to creative adjustments on set.
Levinson noted that when Dane arrived with a "slight slur" caused by his illness, they staged the scene with beer bottles to provide a narrative reason for his speech.
"I loved him very deeply," Levinson stated, adding that he promised to make the production work regardless of Dane's physical condition.
The actor, who rose to global fame on Grey’s Anatomy, announced his illness in April 2025 but remained determined to continue his craft.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dane is survived by his former wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
His passing marks the third major loss for the Euphoria production team, following the deaths of cast member Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen.
