Meryl Streep jokes writing a memoir would be ‘too boring’

Meryl Streep has firmly ruled out ever writing a memoir, dismissing the idea with her trademark wit during a recent interview alongside her The Devil Wears Prada 2 co-stars.

The Oscar-winning actress, 76, appeared on SiriusXM’s Front Row with host Andy Cohen and castmates Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, where she was asked whether fans could ever expect a personal tell-all.

“Will we ever get a memoir from you?” Cohen asked.

“Nope, nope,” Streep replied immediately. When pressed further, she doubled down with a laugh, adding, “Too boring. Seriously.”

The moment sparked laughter from the studio, with Tucci playfully reacting as the group discussed the idea. Streep’s co-star has previously authored cookbooks, which she lightly referenced during the exchange.

Despite rejecting the idea of writing her own life story, Streep admitted she does enjoy reading memoirs by other public figures.

She specifically praised Barbra Streisand’s 2023 memoir My Name Is Barbra, saying she experienced it through audio format.

“What am I, nuts? I listened to it — that was the only way,” she said.

The interview took place as Streep promotes The Devil Wears Prada 2, where she reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly alongside returning co-stars and new additions to the ensemble cast.

The sequel revisits the world of high-fashion publishing nearly two decades after the original film became a cultural landmark.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Streep also reflected on her character’s real-world inspiration, fashion experiences tied to the franchise, and the possibility of returning to Broadway for the first time since the late 1970s.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit theaters on May 1.
