A construction worker has died following a tragic accident while preparing the stage for an upcoming concert by Shakira in Rio de Janeiro, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, at Copacabana Beach, where preparations were underway for the large-scale public event “Todo Mundo no Rio,” expected to draw millions of attendees.

In a statement shared on social media, event organizers said the worker was involved in assembling stage structures when the accident happened.

Emergency responders were quickly dispatched, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital after receiving initial treatment at the scene. Despite rescue efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Authorities from the Rio state fire brigade reported that the worker sustained severe crushing injuries to his lower limbs in a lifting system during the setup process.

Fellow workers reportedly freed him from the equipment before emergency teams arrived.

Military ambulance personnel provided urgent pre-hospital care before transferring the victim to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Organizers expressed condolences in their statement, saying they are offering full support to the victim’s family, as well as to the company and team involved in the production.
