Trump predicts Prince William 'will be a good King' during state visit
Donald Trump questions royal expert Robert Hardman on the success of King Charles’s US visit
During a private meeting in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump shared his candid opinions on the British Royal Family with biographer Robert Hardman.
The meeting, which took place during King Charles and Queen Camilla’s historic state visit to the United States in May 2026, focused on the President’s admiration for the Princess of Wales and his high expectations for the future of the British Monarchy.
Hardman, author of Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story, recounted the conversation to the Daily Mail.
Trump specifically inquired about Kate Middleton’s well-being, praising her conduct during her absence from the public eye in early 2024.
"She's so great," Trump remarked, according to Hardman. "She was sick, people said crazy things about her and she was so brave."
The President also spoke warmly of Prince William, stating definitively that the Prince "will be a good King" and describing him as a "very nice" and "great guy."
These remarks come as the US celebrates the 250th anniversary of American independence, a milestone that King Charles’s visit was intended to honour while easing international diplomatic tensions.
Despite his praise for the senior working royals, Trump offered a characteristically blunt assessment of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Referring to Meghan Markle, the President allegedly stated, "That wife of his. Boy, what she's done to that guy," suggesting that she had been "blocked out" by the Princess of Wales.
While Trump remains a vocal admirer of the late Queen Elizabeth II, his recent comments indicate a continued personal investment in the dynamics and future of the House of Windsor.
