Tate McRae has revealed that she maintained a "very specific vision" when building her successful career as a global pop star.

Reflecting on her early ambitions during an interview with Billboard published on Saturday, the Canadian singer explained that she had a vivid mental blueprint of the artist she intended to become from the very beginning.

"I remember being like, 'I want to be a pop star. I want Sean Bankhead. I want to write over this tempo. I want to do it in a hockey rink,'" McRae told the publication, noting how clearly she could see the aesthetic in her brain.

The greedy hitmaker emphasised that achieving this vision required a stubborn commitment to her instincts and the careful selection of creative partners.

McRae specifically referenced her work with choreographer Sean Bankhead, who has previously collaborated with icons such as Usher and Cardi B.

She admitted that while people often receive signs about their life's direction, they frequently ignore them until the urge becomes undeniable.

"And then finally, it becomes the most piercing feeling in your gut, and you wake up and you're like, 'All right. No more time to waste,'" she remarked.

During the discussion, the 22-year-old also expressed her deep admiration for her peers, naming Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter as artists she respects.

She concluded by identifying Lana Del Rey as her ultimate dream collaborator, describing herself as "just the biggest fan."

McRae first achieved international stardom in 2020 with her viral single " You Broke Me First " and is currently preparing for a new era of music.
