Beau Garrett reflects on unexpected comeback role in Taylor Sheridan’s 'The Madison'

Taylor Sheridan was once her acting coach nearly two decades before casting her in his latest series, The Madison.

Speaking at a recent industry panel in New York City, Garrett, 43, shared that she first met Sheridan when both were struggling to establish themselves in Hollywood.

At the time, he worked as an acting coach, and a mutual friend recommended him as an affordable and effective mentor.

“I loved him immediately,” Garrett recalled, describing how their early professional connection helped shape her foundation as an actress before life eventually took them in different directions.

Over the years, Sheridan’s career evolved dramatically as he became one of television’s most influential creators, while Garrett stepped away from acting for a period, focusing on family life.

She said she had moved away from the industry entirely and was prepared to leave it behind.

That changed when she submitted a last-minute self-tape audition for The Madison, a role she initially believed she had not performed well enough to secure.

Trusting her instincts, she requested another chance through casting director John Papsidera, a decision that ultimately proved pivotal.

Garrett later learned the role had nearly gone to another actor before Sheridan was urged to review her audition.

“He got a call saying, ‘I think you need to see this tape,’” she recalled, noting that Sheridan recognized her from years earlier.

Soon after, she found herself auditioning in person and receiving the life-changing call confirming her casting.

Garrett described the moment as overwhelming, saying she could hardly process that Sheridan himself was on the line.

Her role in The Madison also places her alongside veteran actor Kurt Russell, who plays her on-screen father.

She humorously recalled her disbelief upon learning the casting pairing, calling the experience surreal.

Garrett praised the production for its emotional depth and ensemble cast, which also includes Michelle Pfeiffer.

She said being part of the project felt meaningful, particularly given her personal history with Sheridan.
