Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster dazzle at 2026 Met Gala date night
Jackman's initial Met Gala solo entry took place in 2024
For Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman, fashion's major evening doubles as a date night!
The Broadway actress, 51, and Song Sung Blue performer, 57, made their entrance at the 2026 Met Gala in New York City on Monday, May 4. They graced the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art dressed in chic matching outfits.
Foster dazzled in a gold metallic one-shoulder dress, featuring a gathered front and a subtle slit. Her ensemble was complemented with jewelry by Fred Leighton. Jackman chose a sleek classic black tuxedo with a silver brooch.
Jackman shared hints of their joint appearance beforehand, posting a preview of their outfits on Instagram with the caption, "Heading to the #METGALA2026." He also included a tag for Foster in the post.
This appearance marked Foster's first time at the Met Gala. Jackman, however, is quite experienced with the celebrity-filled gathering, which this year embraced the dress code "Fashion is Art," inspired by the Met's spring 2026 display titled "Costume Art."
The dress code this year is purposefully open-ended, motivating attendees to view clothing as an artistic medium and the body as a creative canvas.
Linked with the theme centered on the “dressed body,” the focus is on how fashion connects with the human form rather than just replicating famous pieces of art.
Jackman's initial Met Gala solo entry took place in 2024, where he wore a simple black-and-white tuxedo, which has become his signature look for the event.
That solo outing was a change for the actor, previously seen at the event with his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. They first appeared at the Gala in 2004.
Jackman and Foster — who were long-time friends before romance sparked and who shared the stage in a 2022 Broadway production of The Music Man — confirmed their relationship by holding hands in January 2025.
The duo's red carpet introduction as a couple came a few months later, in October 2025, during the premiere of Jackman's movie, Song Sung Blue. An insider shared with PEOPLE that the actors were "thrilled about their future together" at the time.
The couple has continued to make various public appearances, including the NYC premiere of Jackman's latest film, The Sheep Detectives, which Foster also attended.
The actors began their relationship after both experienced separations.
In September 2023, Jackman parted ways with Furness, his partner of 27 years, with whom he has two grown children.
Around the same time, Foster initiated divorce proceedings from her former spouse Ted Griffin in October 2024. The two share a daughter, Emily, 7, together.
