Megan Thee Stallion on separating her real self from rap persona

Megan Thee Stallion leads a dual existence—and she's discovered how to cultivate both.
The "Mamushi" rapper was featured on the cover of Entrepreneur on Wednesday (May 5), where she discussed her journey to balance her career as a rapper with her personal life.
"I realised I had to distinguish between Megan Pete and Megan Thee Stallion," Megan, 31, explained.
"When I connect with my fans and my Hotties, I want them to leave with the feeling that meeting Megan — no matter their initial mood — improved their day," she added. "It's about providing a sense of comfort."
At one point, the "HISS" rapper began to feel that her professional persona was overwhelming—and people interacted with her differently because of it.
"I was living as Megan Thee Stallion constantly. I was always in performance mode. And others responded accordingly. Even those who knew me well stopped treating me as the Megan they originally met, instead seeing me as Megan Thee Stallion," she shared.
She went on to say, "That really bothered me. I thought, 'This is strange. Why is someone I know documenting everything I do, or why are we constantly gossiping about celebrities?' It was overwhelming to deal with."
Over time, Megan also learned to discern the genuine relationships in her life, recognising who would be a lasting presence versus those who were temporary.
"It became essential to not let the stress of my day as Megan Thee Stallion intrude on my personal life," she said. "Whatever challenges Megan Thee Stallion faced shouldn't affect my real friendships, relationships, and family life. I'm leading two distinct lives."
Megan's thoughts on lasting relationships surface after she announced her split from Dallas Mavericks player Klay Thompson.
"I decided to end my relationship with Klay," Megan said in a statement to PEOPLE. "Trust, loyalty, and respect cannot be compromised in a relationship for me. When these values aren't met, the relationship can't continue. I'm focusing on myself and moving forward with calm and clarity."
The "Savage" artist also recently gave her final performance in Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Friday, May 1. Initially set to perform until May 17, she chose to leave the show early shortly after the breakup.
"Hotties, my last time performing as Zidler in moulinrougebway will be May 1," she posted on Instagram on April 27. "Being part of the Moulin Rouge family has been a huge honor, and I've met so many incredible individuals in this theater! Your dedication and hard work are truly admirable!"
"I'm deeply grateful for the cast and crew who made this experience unforgettable," she expressed. "And to all the Hotties who attended or planned to attend, thank you for standing by me in this memorable time! I LOVE YALL See you soon."
