Stalker Jason McDermitt was convicted of aggravated murder and menacing after killing Fox

Workplace obsession leads to tragic execution of FedEx manager Morgan Fox

Morgan Fox, a dedicated 29-year-old mother and FedEx manager, was fatally shot on 28 October 2020 while leaving for an early shift in North Canton, Ohio.

Her boyfriend, Jason Scarnecchia, discovered her body outside their home, leading to an investigation that unmasked a toxic workplace environment and a lethal obsession.

Authorities determined that Fox was the victim of an "execution-style" shooting, having been targeted from behind. This case, featured on the 8 May 2026 episode of Dateline, highlighted the severe harassment Fox endured before her death.

Investigators arrested co-worker Jason McDermitt, who was reportedly "obsessed" with Fox after she was promoted to a management position.

Evidence revealed McDermitt had stolen Fox's mobile phone to search for private images and continued to harass her despite her filing formal complaints.

In an email sent to human resources the night before her murder, Fox wrote: "I feel like I'm being targeted at work. I feel uncomfortable."

McDermitt even posted a deceptive tribute on her Facebook page before surveillance footage and ballistic evidence tied him to the crime.

In 2021, McDermitt was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Fox's daughter, Emilia, poignantly told the court, "I thought monsters weren't real, but you proved me wrong."

In February 2023, FedEx reached a £3.2 million ($4 million) settlement with Fox's family, establishing a trust fund for her daughter.

Previously, McDermitt was linked to another workplace complaint involving a different woman. Moving forward, the Fox family intends to focus on Emilia’s education and future.
