Hayden Panettiere opens up on love life after coming out as bisexual
The actress says she is currently single and describes herself as her 'own romantic partner'
Hayden Panettiere has opened up about her current relationship status, confirming that she is not dating anyone and describing herself as her “own romantic partner.”
The 36-year-old former Heroes star, who recently came out as bisexual in her memoir This Is Me, addressed her personal life in a new interview with The Sunday Times Culture magazine, where she reflected on love, identity, and her past relationships.
“Right now, I’m my romantic partner,” she said, making it clear she is currently single.
Panettiere has previously been linked to actor Milo Ventimiglia and former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko. Although she was recently seen with ex Brian Hickerson, she reiterated that she is not in a relationship.
In her memoir, Panettiere also spoke about the difficulties of sharing her story publicly, saying she held back for years due to fear and a desire for perfection.
“I’ve had a lot to say that, for years, I haven’t gotten a chance to say for many reasons, but a lot of them just were about fear and being a perfectionist,” she said.
The actress also reflected on a challenging period in her life involving custody arrangements for her daughter Kaya, 11, whom she shares with Klitschko. She previously relinquished custody when Kaya was three, during a difficult time marked by her struggles with addiction and depression.
Addressing public assumptions about her decision, Panettiere said misconceptions about her role as a mother have been painful, adding that the reality of her situation has often been misunderstood.
She also spoke about the emotional difficulty of living apart from her daughter, who resides in Europe, while Panettiere is based in the United States.
“It’s not nearly as often as I wish. I want my child next to me every single day,” she said, adding that they maintain a close bond through visits and regular video calls.
Panettiere further reflected on her postpartum depression following Kaya’s birth, saying it took time for her to understand what she was experiencing and that it was not initially taken seriously by those around her.
“I’d never known anybody who dealt with postpartum depression. It took me months and months to realise what it was,” she said.
Despite their past difficulties, Panettiere said she now shares a “really beautiful friendship” with Klitschko and believes relationships can evolve over time.
“You don’t have to agree with everything that somebody does. You can still love them and try to figure out how to overcome those obstacles together,” she added.
