Tracee Ellis Ross joins star-studded rotation in Broadway hit every brilliant thing

Tracee Ellis Ross is heading to Broadway for the first time, with the Emmy-nominated actress set to star in Every Brilliant Thing this summer at New York’s Hudson Theatre.

The Black-ish star will take on the lead role in the acclaimed one-person play from July 7 to August 9, following a series of high-profile casting changes in the production’s rotating run.

The show is currently playing at the Hudson Theatre, where Daniel Radcliffe originated the role in the latest Broadway staging, earning a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.

Radcliffe will give his final performance on May 24 before Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay takes over from May 26 to July 5. Ross will then step in as the next lead performer.

Playwright Duncan Macmillan welcomed Ross to the production, praising her emotional range and stage presence.

“I’ve been a fan of Tracee’s work for a long time and knew her quick-wit, intelligence and emotional depth would be the perfect fit for Every Brilliant Thing,” he said in a statement.

“We are beyond thrilled that she has chosen to make her Broadway debut with us this summer.”

Hargitay, who is currently preparing for her run, previously described the production as a deeply meaningful project.

“I read Every Brilliant Thing and cried, rejoiced, laughed, cried some more, and loved it so much,” she said.

“It feels like an extraordinary gift to make my Broadway debut, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.”

Originally premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2014, Every Brilliant Thing has since become a global theatrical phenomenon, performed in more than 80 countries and known for its interactive format, where audience members are invited to participate in the storytelling.
