Victoria Beckham reflects on business struggles while dismissing retirement plans

Fashion designer and former pop star Victoria Beckham has made it clear she has no intention of stepping away from work anytime soon, saying she enjoys what she does too much to slow down.

In a recent interview with The Times, Beckham said retirement is not something she is currently considering, explaining that staying busy is a key part of her life and identity.

“I just love what I do. I love the people that I work with. So, at the moment, no,” she said.

The 52-year-old fashion mogul added that she would struggle with a life away from work, describing the idea of retirement as unappealing.

“To be honest, I'd be really bored. I would be really, really bored. I love being busy,” she said.

Beckham, who shares four children with husband David Beckham, said her work ethic is something she hopes her children will learn from both parents.

She added that it is important for her family to see passion and discipline in action, noting that leading by example plays a major role in parenting.

“They see the work ethic that both myself and David has,” she said, adding that her children are also developing their own ambitions and drive.

Beckham first rose to fame in the 1990s as a member of the Spice Girls before launching a solo music career and later establishing her global fashion brand, Victoria Beckham.

Her career has also been the subject of multiple documentaries, including Netflix’s 2025 docuseries Victoria Beckham, which explored both her public image and private struggles.

In the series, Beckham revealed that her fashion business once came close to collapse, describing a period of severe financial and emotional strain.

“I almost lost everything, and that was a dark, dark time,” she said, adding that the company was “tens of millions in the red” during its most difficult phase.

She also admitted that she often felt overwhelmed while trying to manage both her marriage and business, noting that her husband was also her business partner during that period.

However, Beckham said the company eventually recovered after restructuring and the involvement of new business partners who encouraged major changes.

Reflecting on her journey during a recent TIME100 Summit appearance, she described the experience of making her documentary as deeply reflective.

“It was like a year's intense therapy,” she said, explaining that the process helped her confront past challenges while focusing on rebuilding and moving forward.
