Florence Pugh set to star in major studio adaptation of ‘The Midnight Library’
Paramount Pictures is said to be closing a deal worth more than $30 million for the project
Florence Pugh is set to headline a major film adaptation of The Midnight Library, with the project emerging as one of the most sought-after packages following strong industry interest at the Cannes Film Festival.
According to reports, Paramount Pictures is nearing a blockbuster deal valued at more than $30 million for the fantasy drama, which is based on Matt Haig’s bestselling novel.
The film will see Pugh take on the role of Nora Seed, a woman who finds herself in a mysterious library between life and death, where each book reveals a different version of the life she could have lived.
The adaptation is being directed by Garth Davis, known for Lion, and is already being described by industry insiders as a visually ambitious, emotionally driven story exploring themes of regret, choice, and second chances.
Davis has reportedly praised Pugh’s involvement, calling her “warmth and talent” central to the project’s appeal.
The screenplay has been written by Laura Wade and Nick Payne, while author Matt Haig is attached as executive producer, ensuring the film remains faithful to the tone and spirit of the original novel.
Distribution rights have been split internationally, with StudioCanal overseeing the UK, Europe, and select territories, while Paramount handles global distribution across remaining markets.
Production is expected to move into pre-production later this year, with filming currently planned for early 2027.
Haig has previously expressed enthusiasm about the adaptation, noting his excitement at seeing Nora Seed’s many possible lives brought to the screen in a new and vivid form.
With a high-profile lead, major studio backing, and a globally popular source novel, The Midnight Library is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy releases in development.
