'Scary Movie' star Cheri Oteri undergoes breast cancer surgery after early diagnosis

Cheri Oteri has revealed that she recently underwent surgery after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, saying she is now recovering and feeling well.

The 63-year-old Scary Movie star shared that she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a very early form of breast cancer in which abnormal cells remain confined to the milk duct and have not spread into surrounding tissue.

Oteri explained that she “caught it really early,” and recently had a second lumpectomy after an initial procedure performed about a month earlier. She said that following treatment, “everything looks normal and fine.”

Speaking on the Dear Chelsea, Oteri also encouraged listeners to advocate for themselves when it comes to medical decisions, stressing the importance of getting a second opinion after her first doctor reportedly suggested a more aggressive treatment approach.

The actress said she has felt deeply supported throughout her health journey, including by friends such as former First Lady Jill Biden, whom she met at a recent Milken Institute event.

Oteri recalled that she shared her diagnosis with Biden shortly before her surgery, and said the former First Lady offered consistent emotional support, staying in contact before and after the procedure.

She described the experience as unexpectedly meaningful, noting how supportive conversations with friends helped her navigate the diagnosis and treatment process.

Oteri also used the opportunity to urge others to stay proactive about their health, encouraging regular mammograms and early screening.

The actress added that she feels grateful her condition was detected early, allowing for prompt treatment and a positive recovery outlook.
