  • The sequel crossed $1 billion for the franchise, surpassing the original's $326.5M total
  • It surpassed the first film's entire US lifetime gross within its first nine days

Disney's 20th Century Studios sequel Devil Wears Prada 2 has pushed the franchise past the $1 billion mark at the global box office, with the film now in its seventh week of release. The sequel has accumulated $676 million worldwide, including $217.9 million from domestic markets alone, against a production budget of $100 million before global marketing costs.

Deadline reported the milestone ahead of what is expected to be a record-breaking weekend for Disney with the release of Pixar's Toy Story 5.

Dwarfing the original

The original 2006 comedy, based on Lauren Weisberger's New York Times bestselling novel, closed its theatrical run at $326.5 million in reported currency — a figure the sequel has long since eclipsed. The first film earned $124.7 million domestically across its entire lifetime, a total the sequel surpassed within just nine days of its US release. The original's international gross stood at $201.8 million in reported dollars, compared to the sequel's $458.1 million offshore total.

A nostalgia-driven opening

Disney made the unusual decision to launch summer not with a Marvel film but with Devil Wears Prada 2, which debuted to $233 million worldwide and $76.7 million domestically — both franchise records. The studio reunited the original creative team for the sequel, bringing back Director David Frankel, Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt.

Chart positions

Devil Wears Prada 2 currently sits at number four among all MPA global releases year-to-date, with Disney holding three of the top six slots. Domestically, it ranks fourth for the year, with Disney claiming three of the top seven positions. Internationally, it is the third-highest MPA release of 2026 to date.
