Octavia Spencer gives approval to Regina Hall’s ‘Ma’ reference in new 'Scary movie' 6
The comedy star shared how Octavia Spencer reacted after seeing her famous Ma look recreated
Regina Hall has revealed that Octavia Spencer gave her approval after her character Brenda sported a look inspired by Spencer’s role in Ma in the new Scary Movie 6.
Speaking with People while promoting her partnership with Hyundai’s “Look at You Now” campaign, Hall shared that the tribute was a fun nod to Spencer’s memorable horror performance.
“I love Octavia! I mean, I actually loved the movie Ma,” Hall said, praising Spencer’s performance as Sue Ann, a lonely woman whose relationship with a group of teenagers takes a dark turn in the thriller.
Hall explained that she enjoyed referencing Spencer’s character and revealed that Spencer herself reacted positively to the tribute.
“She was so great. She’s like, ‘You got my wig?’” Hall said, adding that Spencer gave the moment a “sweet shoutout.”
Spencer later acknowledged the reference on social media after sharing a clip of Hall’s character in the film.
She joked about the famous bob hairstyle, writing that she was wondering what happened to her “Ma wig.”
Hall responded playfully, assuring Spencer that the wig was safe with her and jokingly calling herself “the other ma.”
The tribute connects the new comedy sequel with Spencer’s 2019 horror hit, where her character became widely recognized for her unsettling transformation and iconic appearance.
Spencer previously confirmed that a sequel to Ma is in development, with the actress set to return for Ma 2.
Scary Movie 6 is currently in theaters.
