Bonnie Tyler cancels tour dates as she recovers from emergency surgery in Portugal
The singer’s family thanked fans for their support as she continues to recover and focus on her health
Bonnie Tyler’s family has shared an update on her condition after the singer underwent emergency intestinal surgery and was placed in intensive care in Portugal, forcing her to cancel all remaining summer tour dates.
The 75-year-old singer, known for her hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, was reportedly put into a temporary coma following complications from surgery at a hospital near her home in Faro. Her family says she is now awake and “slowly improving,” though she remains under close medical supervision.
In a statement, her family confirmed that doctors are optimistic about her recovery but stressed that it will take time before she is well enough to return to performing.
“Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time,” they said.
They also confirmed that all scheduled shows through the end of August will be cancelled or postponed, with some autumn dates still tentatively expected to go ahead.
“As such we are sorry to tell everyone that we will be cancelling, or postponing until next year, where possible, all of our remaining shows this summer,” the statement added.
The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans worldwide and said the singer is aware of the messages she has received.
“We would like to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to tell you that she is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes,” they said.
They also asked for privacy as she continues her recovery and promised to provide updates when there are significant developments.
Bonnie Tyler had previously insisted she had no plans to retire, but her current health situation has temporarily halted her touring schedule as she focuses on recovery.
