Bebe Rexha shuts down Olivia Rodrigo comparison with powerful message about female artists
The singer showed support for Olivia Rodrigo after a critic brought up sales comparisons between the two artists
Bebe Rexha has pushed back against comparisons between female artists after a fan attempted to spark a rivalry between her and Olivia Rodrigo.
The singer responded after a critic commented on her tribute to late artist Oliver Tree, bringing up Olivia Rodrigo’s sales in comparison to Bebe’s music.
Bebe had shared an emotional post remembering Oliver Tree, revealing that the two had recorded a collaboration for her latest album Dirty Blonde that ultimately did not make the final tracklist.
“I’m in shock. I was in the middle of my CD signing in NYC when I found the news of Oliver Tree. I can’t believe it,” she wrote.
“We recorded a record together to be on Dirty Blonde. He was so smart. Passionate. Talented. Kind. I’m so sad. May he rest in peace.”
However, one social media user responded by telling the “I’m a Mess” singer, “Olivia outsold u btw.”
Bebe quickly rejected the comparison and instead showed support for the young pop star.
“I’m actually happy for her. No need to put women against each other. Stream DIRTY BLONDE for women empowerment. Livies X Rexhars,” she replied, referencing both artists’ fan communities.
The singer’s message comes after she has previously spoken about struggles within the music industry.
In 2024, Bebe claimed she had felt “undermined” and suggested she had been silenced from speaking about her experiences.
“I have been UNDERMINED. I’ve been so quiet for the longest time,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “And when I have spoken up I’ve been silenced and PUNISHED by this industry.”
She added that she believed changes were needed and hinted that she could eventually share more about her experiences.
Throughout her career, Bebe Rexha has been vocal about artists supporting one another, and her latest response continues her call for women in music to be celebrated rather than placed in competition.
