Dwayne Johnson shares his go-to skincare secret while promoting 'Moana'
The actor is putting the spotlight on men's skincare, calling facial toner an underrated essential
Dwayne Johnson is encouraging men to step up their skincare routines, revealing the one grooming product he believes deserves far more attention.
The actor, entrepreneur and former WWE champion recently shared his skincare advice while promoting Disney's live-action Moana and his men's grooming brand, Papatui.
Speaking in PEOPLE's One Last Thing feature, Johnson called facial toner the "quiet superpower" of any skincare routine.
"It's toner. Dudes, you must use toner," the 54-year-old said.
Explaining why he considers it an essential product, Johnson added, "Toner is the quiet superpower. Because toner's the thing that our girls use, our ladies use that. And instead of going to steal their stuff, I founded Papatui."
Johnson launched Papatui in 2024 with a range of men's grooming products, including facial toner, cleanser, moisturizer, eye gel, body wash and haircare items.
Among his personal favourites are the brand's Rejuvenating Facial Toner, volcanic ash facial scrub and fragrances.
According to the brand, the alcohol-free toner is formulated to hydrate and refresh the skin while helping remove excess oil, gently exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce the appearance of pores.
The skincare line recently generated buzz after a TikTok creator jokingly questioned why the famously bald star was selling shampoo and conditioner.
Johnson embraced the joke, posting a humorous video of himself wearing Maui's long hair from the upcoming live-action Moana.
"Ok this made me belly laugh... HARD," he wrote.
"And hey, sometimes a Demigod's radiant and ravishing hair needs shampoo/conditioner. You're Welcooooome."
Johnson has previously said he hopes Papatui will help normalize conversations around men's skincare.
"So many times I would say, 'Dude, why are we whispering (about skincare)? It's okay. We should be able to have this open conversation,'" he told PEOPLE in 2024.
"Papatui has allowed me to encourage just a more open, greater conversation about skincare and grooming."
Alongside expanding his lifestyle brand, Johnson is reprising his role as the demigod Maui in Disney's live-action Moana, starring opposite Catherine Laga'aia as the new Moana.
The film also features Jemaine Clement, John Tui, Frankie Adams and Rena Owen.
Johnson recently confirmed that Moana 3 is also in development following the success of the animated sequel.
