Sweden's Prince Julian pictured wearing blue plaster cast during summer

The Swedish royal family gathered at Solliden Palace in Borgholm to celebrate the 49th birthday of Crown Princess Victoria on Tuesday. The annual gathering at the summer residence on the island of Öland featured the traditional "Victoriadagen" celebrations, during which crowds assembled to sing to the heiress before the family completed a public walkabout. Following the birthday concert held in the nearby Borgholm Castle ruins, the family assembled to pose for their official summer portrait.

The Swedish royal house shared the new photograph on Wednesday, showing King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia standing at the centre of the group. However, five-year-old Prince Julian drew significant attention in the front row of the portrait. Although dressed smartly in a green jacket to match his older brothers, Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel, the young royal had his jacket draped over his right arm, which was wrapped in a blue plaster cast.

Swedish publication Svensk Damtidning reported on the injury after contacting the royal house for clarification. Margareta Thorgren, the Director of the Information and Press Department for the royal family, confirmed that Prince Julian sustained a small crack in his arm. When asked about the cause of the injury, Thorgren explained that it was simply a case of children playing and the kind of minor mishap that can happen.

This is not the first time Prince Julian has captured public attention during major national events. During the celebrations for the 80th birthday of King Carl Gustaf in April 2026, the young prince went viral after performing impromptu dance moves on the balcony of the Royal Palace in Stockholm. While the rest of the family observed the military tributes, the youngster danced along to the music played by the Royal Swedish Marching Band.
