Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez star in alien comedy 'Not Alone'

Illumination and Universal Pictures released the first trailer for the alien-themed animated comedy Not Alone, featuring actors Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez in the lead roles.

The animated project marks the first feature-length voice acting role for Chalamet. He portrays Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who leads a quiet, solitary lifestyle. Gomez stars opposite Chalamet as Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist tasked with developing the world's first plant-fueled rocket. The narrative follows the pair as they team up to prepare for the inaugural launch of the vessel. Despite awkwardness with romance, feelings develop between the two characters as they collaborate.

Complications arise when three small alien fugitives—Dunk, Welly, and Shirm—hide inside Joe's home while fleeing an overzealous, bumbling law enforcement officer named Officer Zandro. Realising the potential of Fran's plant-fueled spacecraft, the extraterrestrial trio determines that the rocket serves as their best chance to travel back to their home planet safely.

British comedic actors Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou voice the three aliens, Dunk, Welly, and Shirm, respectively. Actor Brett Goldstein provides the voice for Officer Zandro, while Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris complete the supporting cast.

Illumination veterans Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val co-direct the feature. Guillon previously co-directed Despicable Me 3 and designed characters for the Despicable Me and Minions franchises. Dodgson served as an editor on The Lorax and Minions, whilst Del Val co-directed Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Secret Life of Pets 2. Illumination founder and chief executive Chris Meledandri produces the film alongside executive producers Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis, and David Distenfeld. The animated feature hits cinemas on April 16, 2027.
