Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool with surprise Marvel appearance at Comic-Con
The actor returned as Wade Wilson for a surprise appearance as fans await news about Deadpool’s future in the MCU
Ryan Reynolds brought Deadpool’s signature chaos to San Diego Comic-Con with a surprise appearance that thrilled Marvel fans.
The 49-year-old actor stepped onto the Hall H stage on Saturday, July 25, during Marvel Studios’ presentation for Avengers: Doomsday, dressed in full costume as his iconic character, Wade Wilson, also known as Deadpool.
Reynolds joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel film, including Robert Downey Jr. and Paul Rudd, as the studio shared details about the highly anticipated project.
Although Reynolds’ involvement in Avengers: Doomsday has not been officially confirmed, the actor joked with the cast about the film’s production timeline.
When Reynolds asked when filming would begin, Downey Jr. jokingly responded, “It’s in the can, bro,” leaving Reynolds to playfully question whether there would be any additional filming or last-minute changes.
“Look around you,” Reynolds said while pointing to the packed auditorium. “Did you bump your head?”
The actor’s appearance comes as fans continue to speculate about the future of Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reynolds last portrayed the wisecracking antihero in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which became a massive global success, earning more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
The film reunited Reynolds’ Deadpool with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, marking a major crossover between Marvel’s Deadpool and X-Men worlds.
Reynolds has also teased that more stories featuring Deadpool could be on the way.
During an April appearance on Today’s Sunday Sitdown Live, the actor revealed that he had begun working on ideas for another project centered around the character.
Later, at Fanatics Fest NYC, Reynolds hinted that Deadpool’s future could explore elements from the comics that have not yet appeared on screen.
“There’s a few really deep cuts that are missing from the movies,” Reynolds said, referencing stories from comic creators including Fabian Nicieza and Gerry Duggan.
While the actor has previously suggested he is not rushing into a traditional Deadpool 4, he has continued to suggest that a new Marvel project involving Deadpool and X-Men characters is in development.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18.
