Shannen Doherty unveils why she was fired from 'Beverly Hills, 90210'

Shannen Doherty shared details about the circumstances that resulted in her dismissal from Beverly Hills, 90210.

In the episode of her Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty podcast, on Monday, Doherty talked with former co-star Jason Priestley about how her lack of professionalism on set led to her dismissal after the fourth season in 1994.

The Charmed actress said, "I definitely went through a lot of growing pains on that show, there were beautiful moments for me and really hard moments for me."

Doherty also shared that she was in a "really bad marriage" during that time, and issues in the relationship made it tough for her to consistently be on time for work.

The 52-year-old actress admitted that this created a "big problem" for her co-stars as they had to wait for her, resulting in longer work hours.

"It wasn’t anybody’s responsibility but mine, but I certainly wish that I had been sort of sat down and sort of looked at and said, ‘Listen, the end result is going to be this, you are going to get fired because none of us are willing to put up with it anymore," she commented about the producers of the show.

Doherty further said, "And I understand that you have an issue in your personal life, but that also can’t bleed into work, you also have to get your s–t together."

The Heathers star also admitted that she "might not have been" open about the difficulties she was going through at the time.

The  actress also mentioned that nobody was aware that her dad was "very sick" or that her husband had a "serious drug problem," claiming that he would sometimes become "very violent."

She confessed, "It was all-consuming for me, I didn’t even want to leave the house because I was scared that he would go and get drugs."

Doherty was in the popular Fox series, Beverly Hills, 90210 for the first four seasons, from 1990 to 1994, until she suddenly left. 

In the beginning of Beverly Hills, 90210 season 5, viewers found out that Doherty's character Brenda chose to go to acting school in England, leading to her departure from the show.
