Ozempic: Popular weight-loss drugs can cause huge loss
Ozempic users may be at an increased risk of developing a threatening harmful condition

A new study has hinted at people, who are taking Ozempic, might be at an increased risk of developing an eye condition that can cause irreversible vision loss.
A recent study uncovered that the active ingredient in Ozempic, semaglutide, could lead to permanent vision loss called, NAION, a non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.
NAION is a rare eye condition that can cause sudden vision loss.
Those individuals with conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, a history of smoking, and those with a specific eye anatomy are characterised at risk of NAION.
While earlier studies have pointed to vision problems as a potential side effect, this new research suggests that the risk may be more severe than initially thought.
Experts are urging individuals using the drug to monitor their eye health closely and consult healthcare providers about any changes in vision.
Though the findings are still being evaluated, the study highlights the need for further investigation into the long-term effects of semaglutide on eye health.
