A powerful anti oxidant has been discovered  in Tomatoes, to improve brain health for people  suffering depression or anxiety.

A study, published in Food Science and Nutrition has highlighted that  Lycopene, which gives tomatoes their red color, has long been studied for its potential health benefits, particularly in reducing the risk of certain types of cancer and heart disease.

Now, research suggests that it may also have a positive impact on mental well-being.

The study also showcases how lycopene may help in protecting brain cells from oxidative stress, a factor known to contribute to depression.

By reducing oxidative damage and promoting healthier brain function, lycopene appears to support the regulation of mood-related brain chemicals like serotonin.

Scientists believe that incorporating lycopene-rich foods, such as tomatoes, into one’s diet could offer a natural approach to alleviating some symptoms of depression.

They have also suggested that it should be used as a complementary treatment alongside traditional therapies.

Though more research is needed to confirm the full extent of lycopene's effects, these early findings provide a hopeful perspective on how natural, dietary components can contribute to improving mental health, offering an alternative or supplementary route to managing mood disorders.
