TikTok has introduced a new "Security Checkup" tool, designed to allow users to quickly review and update their account's security settings from a single screen.

This feature is similar to security checkup features offered by TikTok’s rival Instagram and the tech giant Google.

The launch of the Security Checkup tool comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding TikTok's fate in the United States, with the company continuing to update its app with new features despite the challenges.

For the unversed, following a short ban, US President Donald Trump extended the TikTok ban’s deadline by 75 days back in January.

To access the Security Checkup tool, TikTok users can navigate to their profile, select "Settings and privacy," and then tap "Security and permissions."

The tool provides a step-by-step guide through TikTok's security features, encouraging users to enable additional security measures to safeguard their accounts.

The Security Checkup tool also prompts users to link their phone number and email address to the app, ensuring a backup login method in case they lose access to their account.

Moreover, users can enable two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security when accessing their accounts from unfamiliar devices.

Furthermore, the tool has highlighted the importance of regularly reviewing devices logged into the account and removing any that are no longer in use or unrecognised.

TikTok has also encouraged users to enable device-based authentication methods such as Face ID or Touch Unlock for a secure and convenient login experience.
