John Abraham’s latest political thriller The Diplomat has been banned across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.

The film based on J. P. Singh, a real-life Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Pakistan, has faced a ban across multiple cities.

While the official reason for the ban has not been disclosed, industry insiders suggested the decision was due to the politically sensitive theme of the film.

However, neither the Middle Eastern authorities nor the makers of the movie have yet commented on the matter.

Notably, this ban added The Diplomat to the long list of Indian films which were previously restricted from screening in the Gulf including Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force and Kangana Ranaut debut directorial Emergency.

Set against the backdrop of India-Pakistan relations, the Shivan Nair directorial arrived in theaters on Friday, March 14 coinciding with Holi, the Hindu festival.

The Abraham starrer has reached 16.49 crores and collected 19.43 crores in its opening weekend.

To note, recently John Abraham shared his stance on the Russia-Ukraine war, revealing he sides with Moscow in the conflict.
