Jungkook responds to backlash over ‘Make Tokyo Great Again’ cap
Slogan on Jungkook's cap drew criticism for its resemblance to Donald Trump’s 'Make America Great Again'

BTS star Jungkook has publicly apologized after sparking controversy for wearing a cap with the slogan “Make Tokyo Great Again” during rehearsals for bandmate J-Hope’s concert on Friday.
The 27-year-old singer addressed the issue directly with a heartfelt message to fans on the platform Weverse.
“I sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience caused by the hat I wore during rehearsals. I didn’t realize the historical and political context behind the phrase. There’s no excuse. I was careless. I’ll make sure to be more thoughtful from now on,” he wrote.
The cap’s slogan drew criticism for its resemblance to Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again,” with fans noting that the phrase has been associated with anti-Korean sentiment.
Many took to social media to express their disappointment, calling it a “careless” oversight by the K-pop sensation.
In his statement, Jungkook clarified that the cap was immediately discarded once he became aware of its implications, acknowledging that he had “unintentionally hurt” many fans.
The BTS star’s public apology received mixed reactions online. While some praised him for taking responsibility, others questioned whether the act had been intentional.
This incident comes shortly after Jungkook completed his mandatory 18-month military service, alongside bandmate Jimin.
