Instagram faces backlash as users blame AI for unjust account bans
Instagram is under growing scrutiny as users continue to report a spike in unexplained account bans, with many pointing fingers at artificial intelligence (AI) as the potential cause behind the sweeping suspensions.
Over the past few weeks, complaints have flooded social media platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), with users claiming their accounts were disabled without any clear violation of Instagram’s community guidelines.
Despite following Meta’s appeal process, several individuals allege they’ve received no meaningful response, or worse, no response at all.
One frustrated user on Reddit, u/Dyrovicious, shared their experience: “I’ve already submitted multiple appeals, uploaded my ID, and tried reaching out to Meta through all the official channels, but I’ve been completely ignored. It feels like I’m shouting into a void.”
Some users have noted the lack of accessible customer support, especially for those without a Verified subscription, a service Meta offers to creators and businesses, which includes priority support.
Meanwhile, the top posts in Instagram-related Reddit threads are now dominated by discussions around the ongoing bans, and Instagram’s replies on X are filled with pleas for assistance.
Adding to the pressure, a petition demanding action has already surpassed 4,000 signatures.
Some users are even threatening legal action, suggesting a potential class action lawsuit if the issue remains unresolved.
