Marc Maron, famously known for his comedy antics, recently made a surprising confession about Taylor Swift, revealing that using the pop sensation’s music in his forthcoming HBO comedy special came with a hefty price tag.

During an appearance on an episode of Vulture’s Good One  podcast, which aired on Friday, the 61-year-old comedian opened up about the amount he spent to feature a song by the 35-year-old musician in his project.

Maron shared that he paid approximately $50,000 to license Swift’s Bigger Than the Whole Sky, a bonus track from the 3am Edition of her 2022 album Midnights, for his special Marc Maron: Panicked, which is set to premiere on HBO on August 1.

"It had to happen," the American podcaster said about using the track, adding, "The real fear was, like, if she doesn't let you use it, and then what do you do? You can't do the bit on the special."

He revealed that he reached out to musician Jack Antonoff, Swift's longtime collaborator and co-writer on the song.

"I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him," Maron explained.

"I said, 'I don't know what's proper or how to do this, but we're running out of money on this thing. It's probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?'" he continued.

However, Antonoff advised Maron to go through the official music licensing channels.

Ultimately, he was able to get approval to use the track.

"It was doable," the WTF with Marc Maron host said, noting that the tens of thousands of dollars only covered the use of one minute of the song.

"I would have gone over the minute, but it would have been more money," he added.

Previously, in 2023, Marc Maron shared his journey of becoming a fan of Taylor Swift.

"I'm an open-minded guy, and I like music. I wanted to try to figure out what it is about Taylor Swift that everyone never shuts up about," he had remarked.
