Jimmy Kimmel was one of the most reliable names in late night television until now. The long standing host of ABC “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”was reportedly fired as the controversies surrounding him became too hard to deal with as he made comments on Charlie Kirk's killer.

The 57-year-old was the subject of backlash in the past but his style of comedy has become too polarising and has led to the abandonment of sponsorship.

Old skits resurface

Things started to go south for Kimmel when old skits with him impersonating black celebrities were considered to be offensive. Although Kimmel has apologised for such acts in the past, the skits came back and sparked outrage from the public.

Political humor backfires

More than often Kimmel would include political commentary in his skits and would mix in sharp critiques about politicians. Even though a portion of the audience would claim he was courageous, the backlash was him losing potential fans for the radical position he took.

Monologues served to be divisive rather than unified for bits of Kimmel's comedy.

Rival with a celebrity.

‘Friendship’ with Matt Damon was heard on air but perhaps Kimmel was hyped as simply hard to get along with by some others. His hard to get joke was taken too far.

More than a few celebrities were said to skip the attendances of his presence. Consequently, no sooner than said, Hollywood was presumed to be chasing him too.

Derogatory remarks under fire

Outside politics and run-ins with celebrities, Kimmel has, once again, come under fire because of his past monologues that made light of touchy subjects.

From concerning jokes about women to the more controversial commentary of the day, critics lamented that Kimmel did not change his approach as the standards of comedy shifted.

Doubts cast over his career

Kimmel has, for more than 20 years, been a fixture of the late-night shows with his unique delivery of satire and touching moments, including emotionally charged monologues about the state of the healthcare system and popular celebrity skits.

Defending him became the last straw. His dismissal signifies a change in the late-night television landscape, as Kimmel’s case demonstrates that responsibility and image can be more dominant than ratings.
