Charles Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, has recalled an emotional story from her sister's funeral.

During his appearance on the Rosebud podcast, the 9th Earl Spencer said he didn't want to write his late sister's eulogy and looked for someone else to deliver the tribute, as he was struggling to manage his grief while traveling from Cape Town to London.

“I was in bits,” he shared, recalling how a flight attendant comforted him on the way.

Spencer revealed that he didn’t want to give the eulogy and had searched through his address book, hoping to find someone else who could deliver it, but failed to find anyone.

The 9th Earl said his mother told him it was his duty to speak, and that his mother and sisters had already decided it.

He recalled that his first version of the eulogy was a ‘very traditional one,’ but soon realized he needed to speak for Diana rather than just about her.

“That was who she was — someone who needed a voice,” he explained.

He wrote the heartfelt speech in just an hour and a half, wrote it from the bottom of his heart, and got the world’s attention when he pledged to protect her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, as their guardian.

His love and affection for his sister still beats like a heart, even decades after her tragic death in a 1997 car accident in Paris at the age of 36.
