Elon Musk admits X algorithm glitch affected visibility, promises new ‘Following’ feature
Elon Musk has revealed that X’s 'For You' feed was hit by a major technical glitch
Elon Musk has revealed that X’s “For You” feed was hit by a major technical glitch that caused users to see fewer posts from the accounts they follow.
The tech billionaire confirmed that engineers have identified the issue and that a fix will roll out by tomorrow.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote, “We found a significant bug in the X ‘For You’ algorithm that resulted in users seeing far fewer posts from people that they follow. It should be fixed by tomorrow.”
The update comes just days after Musk issued a public apology for widespread frustrations over X’s algorithm, with many users complaining about sudden drops in engagement and visibility.
Several creators had reported that their posts were no longer reaching their regular audiences, sparking debates about whether X’s algorithm unfairly prioritised certain content.
In the same post, Musk also announced an upcoming upgrade to the “Following” feed, giving users more control over their timelines.
The new setting will allow people to choose between viewing “everything from everyone you follow” or just the “highlights,” a move Musk claims will make the experience “much more usable.”
This latest incident marks yet another round of technical turbulence for Musk’s platform, which has been undergoing frequent overhauls since he took over in late 2022.
