Tim Cook has shared his final pieces of leadership wisdom with his successor, John Ternus, as the seasoned executive prepares to hand over the reins of Apple.

During the company’s second-quarter earnings call on Thursday, Cook imparted advice centred on the strategic management of time and the preservation of the firm's core mission.

"What I've told him is that one of the most important decisions he’ll make is where to spend his time, and I would spend it where the greatest benefit to the company and the users are," Cook remarked.

The outgoing chief executive, who will step down in September to become executive chairman, urged Ternus to never lose sight of the "North Star" that defines the Cupertino-based giant.

He emphasised that the primary goal remains creating products that enrich lives, asserting that such a focus naturally produces a successful business.

Reflecting on his own 15-year tenure, Cook recalled how Steve Jobs once advised him never to ask what his predecessor would do, but simply to "do what’s right." Cook noted that this specific guidance lifted a "huge burden" from his shoulders throughout his leadership.

Ternus, a 25-year veteran and current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, expressed his gratitude and humility in a statement on Apple's blog.

"I promise to lead with the values and vision that have come to define this special place for half a century," he said.

While Ternus prepares for his new role, Cook’s transition marks the end of an era that saw Apple reach unprecedented financial milestones and global influence.
