Elon Musk has claimed that Tesla could eventually out-produce every other AI chip maker combined.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the tech billionaire revealed that Tesla has long operated a specialised in-house team focused on advanced AI chip and board design, describing the group as a core driver of the company’s self-driving and AI ambitions.

According to the Tesla CEO, the company has already deployed “several million” of its custom processors across its vehicles and data centres.

Tesla is currently shipping its fourth-generation AI chip, known as AI4, while the AI5 iteration is close to completion and early work has begun on AI6.

Musk claimed the long-term plan is to introduce a fresh chip architecture every year, reinforcing his belief that Tesla can scale faster than traditional semiconductor makers.

His bold assertion quickly stirred reaction across financial circles. Shortly after the statement, a new Investopedia report noted that Tesla shares jumped more than 6%, placing the company among the day’s top S&P 500 performers.

Analysts also pointed to rising expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut next month, which could further boost big-ticket consumer spending and support Tesla’s broader growth outlook.
