A long-awaited moment for China’s tech industry has finally arrived. US President Donald Trump has cleared the path for Nvidia to resume selling its powerful AI chips in the country, handing a major victory to CEO Jensen Huang after months of behind-the-scenes lobbying.

The turnaround marks a dramatic shift from previous US policy, which had barred Nvidia’s most advanced chips from being exported to China over national security concerns.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I have informed President Xi, of China, that the United States will allow NVIDIA to ship its H200 products to approved customers in China, and other Countries, under conditions that allow for continued strong National Security. President Xi responded positively!”

His statement immediately signaled a softer stance on high-end US semiconductor exports.

Trump added that the Department of Commerce has now finalised the necessary details and that similar offers have been extended to other major chip makers, including AMD and Intel.

Nvidia’s H200 chips are among the company’s most powerful, far exceeding the toned-down H20 model originally crafted for China before being banned earlier this year.

Following Trump’s big move, critics are questioning whether the federal government should be taking a financial cut from private chip deals.
