Josh Hutcherson is opening up about a side of fame he didn’t face until long after his ‘The Hunger Games’ years.

Appearing on Dinner’s On Me podcast, the actor said that he didn’t truly understand rejection until the blockbuster franchise wrapped.

“I didn’t learn rejection ever,” he said. “I knew only success from the age nine to, like, 24, then kind of post-Hunger Games world.”

Hutcherson explained that starring as Peeta Mellark alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Philip Seymour Hoffman made it feel like he’d “arrived.”

But once the final film was out, the business shifted. “The industry is so goddamn tricky because they set you up in this way where they’re like, ‘You’ve arrived…’ And then, as quickly as they’re excited to get you into the spotlight, those opportunities fade,” he went on to say.

Before the franchise, Hutcherson worked steadily in films like Little Manhattan, Zathura, Journey to the Center of the Earth and The Kids Are All Right.
