Timothée Chalamet is not walking back his words.

The 29-year-old actor defended recent comments praising his own performances while promoting Marty Supreme, saying his approach reflects full commitment to the film.

“This is in the spirit of Marty,” Chalamet told IndieWire. “It’s a movie about the pursuit of a dream. I’m leaving it on the field.”

Responding to criticism over a clip in which he called his recent acting “really some top-level s---,” Chalamet said he sees no issue in speaking openly about his work.

“Whether it’s the merch or the Zoom or the media appearances, I’m trying to get this out in the biggest way possible,” he said.

Chalamet added that original films require that level of effort, noting they are increasingly rare in the current market.

The actor has previously spoken about his ambition. At the 2025 SAG Awards, he said he is “in pursuit of greatness.”

In Marty Supreme, set in 1950s New York, Chalamet plays a confident and driven table tennis player chasing international success.

“It’s important to say it out loud,” he said in a separate interview. “The discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things I don’t want people to take that for granted.”
