Matt Damon details drastic physical transformation for ‘The Odyssey’: ‘I lost a lot of weight’

Matt Damon is addressing his ripped physique for his upcoming appearance in The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan.

The 55-year-old actor discussed his transformation to play the story’s Greek hero during an interview on Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights.

“Yeah, I was in really good shape. I lost a lot of weight,” he shared. While adding that Nolan “said he wanted me like lean but strong,” Damon continued, “It's a weird thing.”

He further revealed the secret behind his weight loss, saying, “I literally, just because of this other thing I did with my doctor, stopped eating gluten.”

“I used to walk around between 185 and 200 pounds. And I did that whole movie at 167 pounds,” the Good Will Hunting star revealed.

Damon admitted that he hadn’t been “that light since high school” — “So it was a lot of training and a really strict diet.”

While further discussing his fitness regimen for various film roles, like when he played Jason Bourne, the Oscar winner bonded with the podcast’s hosts, both of whom are NFL athletes.

“When I do that or when I do the ‘Jason Bourne’ movies or whatever, it feels almost like a season. I would imagine what that feels like for you guys – when you’re preparing,” he said. “It’s like just part of your day. It’s part of your job, right? It’s like you get really routinised about it and kind of build your day around all that stuff.”

Matt Damon plays Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, set to be released on July 17.
