Reality television star Kyle Richards marked four years of sobriety on Monday after releasing a social media update detailing how giving up alcohol improved her mental and physical well-being. The performer explained that choosing long-term sobriety allowed her to navigate challenging life circumstances while maintaining personal health. She shared that looking healthier served as an additional bonus alongside achieving an unexpected sense of personal calmness.

Instagram hosted the online statement published by The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member, where Richards addressed her followers regarding her decision to abstain from alcohol. Richards explained that she originally wanted to look and feel better during a period when she did not feel her best physically or mentally. She noted that she felt unable to afford bad days, which motivated her decision to quit drinking. Furthermore, Richards acknowledged that while people previously loved when she drank because she was fun, many individuals did not appreciate her decision to stop. However, she refused to allow the negative reactions of others to deter her commitment.

Richards shared that she quickly learned she could still be fun without alcohol while feeling significantly happier the following morning. The television personality noted that individuals who expressed an issue with her choice were more concerned about how her decision made them feel about themselves. In addition, Richards expressed that she did not expect to experience a calmer version of herself while navigating very challenging times. She explained that a shift occurs within a person, noting that circumstances that would normally induce anxiety were instead faced with an unfamiliar composure.

Concluding her update, Richards offered advice to people who might be contemplating a similar lifestyle choice regarding alcohol consumption. She acknowledged that giving up alcohol is not easy for everyone, urging her audience not to feel discouraged by peers who want them to drink for entertainment. Richards reiterated that staying sober ultimately helped her achieve greater happiness, health and mental clarity.
