NASA cancels ISS spacewalk, considers early return of crew to Earth
NASA has called back its crew after one crew member reported health concern
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has called back its crew that was on a mission to Earth earlier than planned.
The aerospace company has confirmed that it is considering an early return of the four-member Crew-11 mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS) after one crew member reported a health concern.
The astronaut is said to be in stable condition, but the situation was serious enough for mission managers to cancel a scheduled spacewalk at short notice.
According to NASA, safety remains the agency’s top priority, and all options are currently under review.
This includes the possibility of ending Crew-11’s mission months ahead of schedule and returning the entire team to Earth together, while another crew remains on board the station.
“The agency is actively monitoring a medical issue with a crew member and evaluating the safest path forward,” a NASA spokesperson said, adding that further details cannot be shared due to medical privacy rules.
The four-person Crew-11 team includes NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov.
They arrived at the ISS in August 2025 aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and were originally expected to stay in orbit for around six months.
