Kate Hudson wants mom Goldie Hawn as Oscar date

Kate Hudson is eager for her mom Goldie Hawn to join her at the 2026 Oscars.

"I’m excited just to be doing this again. It’s really cool," Hudson, 46, said during a Wednesday (February 18) appearance on the Today show, as she discussed her Academy Award-nominated role in the movie Song Sung Blue. "And hopefully my mom will be my date and we can have fun. It’ll be great."

Hudson has been nominated in the Best Actress category at the 2026 Oscars alongside Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), and Emma Stone (Bugonia). 

This is Hudson's second nomination in her acting career; she was formerly nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2000 film Almost Famous at the 2001 Oscars.

Hudson's mom Hawn, 80, is also a Best Supporting Actress Oscar recipient; she won the accolade in 1970 for her performance in the film Cactus Flower, although she wasn’t at the ceremony because she was shooting another movie in London and did not expect to win, as she shared in a 2023 interview with Variety. Raquel Welch accepted the honor on her behalf.

"Reflecting back, I think, 'It would have been amazing to experience that moment,' " Hawn remarked at the time.

"I hope she's able to be my date. We'll see. It would be really nice," she noted then. "We'll figure out how things go, but having my mom with me would be special. I keep telling my fiancé Danny Fujikawa, ‘I think my mom is the one who needs to be on my arm for the Oscars.’ But we'll see how it goes."

The actress and singer teamed up with Hugh Jackman in Song Sung Blue, a film about the real-life married couple Claire “Thunder” Sardina and Mike "Lightning" Sardina, who performed together in the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder for over ten years.
