Arrow's David Ramsey shares testicular cancer experience
David Ramsey candidly shared his nearly ten-year battle with testicular cancer
David Ramsey recently shared insights about his nearly ten-year journey with testicular cancer and health challenges.
The former star of Arrow, who is now 54, explained that he was 28 when doctors first identified his cancer.
They opted to "monitor and guide" his condition over a decade before he eventually underwent surgery and chemotherapy eight years later.
“I’m a cancer survivor,” he said on the Inside of You podcast. “I was kickboxing a lot and one of the testes was significantly smaller than the other. Now that’s true no matter what. It’s like the side of your face, right? They don’t match. But one was significant. So I went to the doctor.”
Ramsey told host Michael Rosenbaum, "They observed something, but weren’t sure what it was. It was identified as microlithiasis. Anyone familiar with testicular cancer might recognise this term. While it’s an indicator of cancer, it can also be present without it. So, they were keeping tabs on it."
Eight and a half years later, Ramsey returned to his doctor when one testicle increased to "the size of my fist."
Though he mentioned it was "never painful," the doctors needed to remove it surgically and he underwent chemotherapy.
Reflecting on his health challenges, Ramsey expressed how gaining perspective has “transformed everything” for him.
"Even when I feel terrible in the morning, I choose to find joy. It might sound odd, but this mindset has significantly helped me cope with life," he stated.
"These are the cards I’ve been dealt. So, how will you play them?" Ramsey continued. "That's what helps with my mental well-being."
