Filming has begun on The Blind Cook (Kusinerang Bulag), a Filipino film directed by Hugo “Boboy” Yonzon III, starring Jean Garcia and Arra San Agustin.

Yonzon has both directed and written the screenplay for this project. The executive producers are Marilyn Magampon Manila and Cyrene Grace Lubigan.

The official description of the movie explains: The Blind Cook tells the story of Luz, a youthful chef who becomes blind due to an unfortunate event, yet remains determined to continue running her family's restaurant.

She learns that perseverance — much like cooking — involves relying on senses other than sight.

The film's cast is completed by Victor Neri (Baler, BuyBust), Samantha Samarita, and Madeleine Nicolas. Jean Garcia is accompanied by her daughter, Jennica Garcia, who both portray a fictional mother and daughter in the story.

Main filming activities are happening in Iloilo City and Batanes Island. This project marks the second feature by Filipino production house Bente Productions, known for I Remember You, a 2025 romantic drama set in Boracay with JC Santos and Valeen Montenegro. Their lineup was announced at Filmart this week.

Director Yonzon, in his statement, highlighted that food and family are at the heart of this tale.

“In Filipino culture, sharing food is a way to unite and nurture relationships,” Yonzon explained.

“It reflects how love is displayed within families. Everyone faces hurdles in life. The true narrative focuses on how individuals cope with adversity. That’s where resilience originates.”
