Celebrity cosmetologist Dr Aishwarya Pandit, founder of Aura Edge Wellness, suggests that the key to healthy skin lies in altering one's routine. Shifting towards a simpler, more strategic approach ensures the skin remains protected and vibrant throughout the season.

Essential Sun Protection and Hydration

Dr Aisshwarya Panddit highlights that sunscreen is the single most important element of any summer regimen.

Alongside protection, maintaining hydration is vital as the rate of water loss increases in the heat.

  • Moisturising: Use gel-based or water-based moisturisers instead of heavy creams. These lightweight formulas prevent the skin from feeling suffocated and allow it to breathe.
  • Sun Avoidance: Limit direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours and ensure the skin is thoroughly cleaned after being outdoors.

Cleansing and Exfoliation Guidelines

While it is tempting to wash the face frequently to remove dirt and sweat, Dr Panddit warns against over-cleansing.

Stripping the skin of its natural oils can actually trigger the body to produce even more sebum, leading to increased oiliness.

  • Gentle Exfoliation: Aim to exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells. This prevents pores from clogging without the need for harsh, abrasive scrubs.
  • Minimalist Makeup: Avoid heavy makeup, which can mix with sweat and debris to block pores. A lighter approach is more comfortable and promotes better skin health.

The Role of Antioxidants

Incorporating antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, into a morning routine provides a significant advantage. 

Dr Panddit states that these ingredients help the skin combat pollution and environmental damage while gradually improving skin tone over time.
