Elon Musk backs HBO’s Harry Potter reboot with JK Rowling's X repost

Elon Musk has weighed in on the debate surrounding HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot series — not with direct commentary, but by amplifying praise from franchise creator J.K. Rowling.

The Tesla and xAI chief reshared a post by Rowling on X in which she expressed enthusiasm for the new series, writing that it is “going to be incredible.” 

Musk’s repost was widely interpreted as a sign of support for the project, which has already sparked significant online debate.

Warner Bros. is planning to adapt all seven Harry Potter books into a multi-season television series, with each book expected to form the basis of a single season. 

The reboot comes more than a decade after the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, concluded the original saga.

However, the project has faced controversy on multiple fronts. Rowling’s views on transgender issues have led to calls for boycotts, while casting decisions — including Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, a role made famous by Alan Rickman — have fueled online backlash.

Despite past criticism of “woke” content in entertainment, Musk’s repost suggests he does not share the same concerns about the Harry Potter reboot. 

His stance contrasts with earlier instances where he urged followers to cancel streaming platforms over content disagreements.

The series remains one of the most high-profile projects in development for HBO, as studios continue to revisit established franchises in an era dominated by reboots and streaming competition.
