Anne Hathaway launches 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' promo in cerulean blue sweatshirt

Anne Hathaway is embracing her character's style.

As she starts the promotional tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, the 43-year-old actress throws back to her character's roots before the eagerly awaited sequel.

In a Sunday (March 29) Instagram Stories post, stylist Ashley Afriyie featured a photo of Hathaway from behind. 

The shot captures the actress' white hoodie, marked with a large blue Pantone square and "ceruleo" (Italian for "cerulean") below it.

"Entering the scene: #CeruleanBlue," wrote Afriyie alongside the image.

This wardrobe choice pays homage to a notable moment from the 2006 film when Runway magazine's chief editor Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Meryl Streep, criticized her assistant Andy (Hathaway) for wearing a cerulean blue sweater without grasping its fashion history.

During the scene, Andy can't help but laugh quietly during an editorial meeting as the Runway team reviews outfits with Priestly in anticipation of a photo shoot.

“Oh, you think this is unrelated to you,” Priestly begins. "You open your closet and choose, let's say, that rather sad blue sweater, trying to show the world you are serious enough not to care about attire."

“But what you fail to realise is that sweater isn't merely blue, nor turquoise or lapis, it's actually cerulean,” she clarifies while explaining the color's storied adoption by fashion designers.

“Then it trickled down into some unfortunate bargain pile where you discovered it,” Priestly comments. “That blue signifies millions of dollars and endless jobs, and it’s rather amusing how you believe you opted out of the fashion industry.”

Hathaway hinted at the fan-favorite scene while revealing that filming for the sequel was in progress.

On July 21, 2025, she released a TikTok video where she hurriedly prepped with an electric toothbrush. Hathaway sported a cerulean blue sweater with disheveled hair, reminiscent of Sachs.

“On my way to work #dwp2,” she captioned the TikTok.

Fans quickly shared their enthusiasm.

“It’s more than just blue, it’s not merely turquoise or lapis. Truly cerulean,” someone commented, alluding to Hathaway’s sweater.

Another enthusiast mentioned, “Like waiting for Christmas for the Devil Wears Prada SEQUEL!!!!"

Streep, at 76, is set to reprise her role along with fellow original cast members Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

The movie is expected to explore Priestly's career challenges during the traditional magazine industry's decline, as she contends with Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive with the much-needed advertising revenue Priestly seeks.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is hitting theaters on May 1.
