Australian singer Sia has broken her silence regarding a reported $42,500-per-month child support settlement involving her estranged husband, Daniel Bernad.

Taking to her X handle on Tuesday, the "Chandelier" performer offered a candid perspective on the financial arrangement, describing the payments as an effort to "buy peace" during a challenging legal process.

Sia explained that despite having primary custody of the couple's son, the specific requirements of California law necessitate the significant monthly sum.

She remarked, "I’m a sober working mom trying to buy peace. I have primary custody of our son and since i am the only parent earning income i still have to pay California’s incredibly high child support."

The 50-year-old artist reflected on the emotional toll of the past twelve months, which she described as a "horrific year."

However, she maintained a resilient outlook, noting that the experience has taught her to prioritise her family and ignore external negativity.

Concluding her statement with a poignant literary reference, the "Unstoppable" hitmaker shared a famous line from Alexander Pope’s 1711 poem, An Essay on Criticism: “To err is human, to forgive is divine.”

The couple originally exchanged vows in 2022 and welcomed their first child together on 27 March 2024. Sia announced her separation from Bernad in March 2025, exactly one year after the birth of their son.

Known for her distinctive voice and wig-wearing persona, Sia first achieved international fame with her sixth studio album, 1000 Forms of Fear. She also has two adult sons whom she adopted in 2019.
